What is a job scam?
A job scam is a fraudulent job offer designed to persuade individuals to provide money, personal information, or access to their bank accounts.
Fraudsters impersonate recruiters, companies, or temporary employment agencies and publish fake job advertisements or contact you directly. Their goal is not to hire you, but to exploit your trust for financial gain or identity theft purposes.
Tips to recognise and avoid a job scam
Initial contact
You receive a job offer by email, through social media, messaging applications (WhatsApp, Telegram) or recruitment platforms.
Attractive offer
The proposed job promises high income, flexible working hours, or simple tasks that require no prior experience.
Creating trust
Fraudsters may organise an “interview” or even make a small payment to appear credible.
Request for money or information
You are then asked to:
– Pay fees (training, equipment, registration, etc.)
– Provide personal or banking information
– Carry out bank transfers on behalf of the “company”
Exploitation
The fraudster disappears with your money or uses your information for criminal purposes (identity theft, money laundering, etc.).
